Advances in Decoding Axolotl Limb Regeneration—HAAS 2022

Humans and other mammals have limited regenerative capacity. Many salamanders can regenerate lost limbs as adults. Knowing how salamander limbs recover could help regenerative medicine. Researchers have been perplexed by the seemingly opaque practicalities of interacting with these organisms at a molecular level. No salamander genome has been entirely sequenced due to its huge size. mRNA-based techniques have recently crossed the sequencing information gap. These data, together with functional experiments, are helping researchers unravel the molecular principles behind limb regeneration.
