Alzheimer's disease —Ballard 2011

This is an audio summary of the article "Alzheimer's Disease” by Ballard in 2011. Globally, there are considered to be 24 million individuals living with dementia, the majority of whom have Alzheimer's disease. As a result, research into Alzheimer's disease has been designated as a top research priority. Although there are approved medications that help ameliorate Alzheimer's disease symptoms, there is an urgent need to advance our knowledge of etiology in order to allow the creation of disease-modifying medications. The creation of a panel of biological and neuroimaging biomarkers that assist clinical diagnosis is progressing, but there still needs to be greater agreement on the best methods for enhancing diagnosis. Strong evidence for possible risk factors for Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and cognitive decline has already been found, but further research is required to fully understand these variables and determine whether therapies might significantly reduce these risks. We give a summary of the most recent research on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of Alzheimer's disease in this seminar. We also go through possible prevention strategies. This is the end of this informational audio track on “Alzheimer's Disease” by Ballard.
