Brief Review of Postoperative Immobilization in Pediatric Occipitocervical Fusion— Pingarilho 2018

This is a brief audio review. In the article Postoperative Immobilization following Occipital-cervical Fusion in the Pediatric Population: Outcome Evaluation and Review of Literature published, 2018 by Pingarilho and Colleagues, The outcomes and key points are as noted: Post operative cervical spine immobilization when compared with no cervical spine immobilization did not have any difference in outcome in children with occipital-cervical fusion. 16 research article were selected and systematically reviewed, 85 patients had occipital-cervical trauma and 43 patients had congenital conditions indicating occipital cervical fusion surgery, 40 used Miami collars, 1 firm neck brace, 1 Minerva jacket, 2 hard cervical collar, 34 halo vest, 5 no immobilization system, 2 cervical orthosis. 44 patients improved, 52 patients were unchanged and 7 patients deteriorated. This was a Systematic review, literature review with 166 patients who were patients who were children with indications for occipital cervical fusion.
