Brief Review of RESCUEicp Trial— Hutchinson 2016

This is a brief audio review. In the article RESCUE i-c-p Trial published, 2016 by Hutchinson and Colleagues, The outcomes and key points are as noted: Craniectomy versus medical management yielded better results in severe brain trauma patients in survival and functional benefits. 6 month mortality was 16.9% versus 48.9%; 12 months mortality 30.4% versus 52%. Extended Glasgow outcomes scale with favorable scores at 6 months was 42.8% versus 34.6% (P=0.12); 12 months favorable extended Glasgow scores 45.4% versus 32.4% (P=0.01). This was a randomized controlled trial, multicenter, international (with parallel group design), with 398 patients who were patients with severe traumatic brain injury and late refractory elevated intracranial pressure (25 millimeters of mercury for 1-12 hours) within 10 days of admission.
