Human–Computer Interaction and Global Development - Toyama 2010
International development is meant to benefit the undeveloped populations around the world. Since the 1990s, HCI has interacted with development through an interdisciplinary field called ICT4D. This paper contrasts HCI and international development and thinks both might benefit from constant engagement. HCI's broad methodological tools include qualitative and quantitative research approaches, iterative prototyping, and reflective inquiry. International growth could expose HCI to other cultures, industries, and issues. These concerns are discussed with published papers and well-known HCI development projects. Future directions for HCI and development collaboration are outlined."
