Surgical management of choroid plexus papilloma of the cerebellopontine and cerebellomedullary angle: classification and strategy — Adib, 2021
Choroid plexus papillomas (CPPs) are neuroectodermal neoplasms that develop in adults' fourth ventricle. In this study, we describe 12 patients with CPP-CPA and/or CPP-CMA treated in our department. A computer search of the Department of Neurosurgery, Tübingen, discovered patients who had CPP-CPA/CMA surgery from 2004 to 2020. Type 1 (tumor only in CPA), type 2 (tumor solely in CMA), and type 3 CPPs were characterized by site (tumor portions both in the CPA and CMA). Reviewing patient papers revealed early symptoms, past therapies, tumor resection extent, recurrence rate, and consequences. In the last 16 years, our department has surgically treated 1500 CPA lesions; 12 patients (mean age 42 19) had CPP-CPA/CMA. Five were male, seven female. Nine instances had gross complete resection, while three had subtotal resection. After 15 and 40 months of follow-up, tumor recurrence in the same place was identified in 2 patients, and in another patient, distant metastases (C3/4 and L3) were observed. Surgical removal of CPP is the preferred treatment, however other alternatives may be needed for remaining tumors, recurrence, or malignant change.
