Multilingual Translation Techniques in the Analysis of Narrative Medical Text - moore 1986
Scientific and medical document computer translation is controversial. This article describes a minicomputer-based translation system (TRANSOFT) that rearranges words before word-for-word translation and context-based ambiguity resolution. This system translated a German medical textbook and short texts in French, Italian, Spanish, and Turkish. Results show TRANSOFT's adaptability for translation challenges. As more foreign language medical documentation and records become computer-readable through word processing, digital typesetting, and hospital information systems, computer translation methods may provide a fast and economical way to obtain draft translations.
