Psychology and health. Research, practice, and policy—Johnson 2003
Since WWII, American psychology's involvement in healthcare has grown. In 2001, the American Psychological Association (APA) added "health" to its mission statement by bylaw. Recent evaluations find that psychological variables are key to health and sickness. This article suggests a bio-psycho-socio-cultural paradigm of health research and therapies. The author discusses 4 definitions of health, analyzes psychology health research and treatments, and describes APA's current health-related initiatives.
