B cells in the pathogenesis of AIDS—Zolla-Pazner 1984

In this paper, Susan Zolla-Pazner suggests that the etiologic agent of acquired immune deficiency syndrome may infect B and T cells. B cell activation can disrupt immunological homeostasis by activating suppressor T lymphocytes that inhibit helper T-cell function. AIDS subpopulation anomalies can be explained if the same lymphotrophic pathogen that infects B cells also destroys helper T cells.
