The relationship of action research to human-computer interaction - Hayes 2011
Along with the increased interest in HCI and computers in undertaking research with considerable social benefits, new techniques are needed to think about and express the problems and outcomes of these initiatives. AR is a set of strategies and practices for doing democratic, collaborative research involving community partners. AR has developed over the years to provide HCI researchers theoretical perspectives, methodological methodologies, and pragmatic guidelines for doing socially meaningful, collaborative, and involved research. This article describes the historical backdrop and beginnings of AR, the scientifically rigorous process of performing and assessing AR projects, and how AR might be applied to HCI research.
