Viability assessment of electric cars for personal use in India—Jain, 2021

The study evaluates electric automobiles for personal usage in India based on driving range, travel pattern, vehicle ownership, income levels, and energy demand. The scenario-based study forecasts India's electric car stock. This estimates electricity demand. Growing incomes give a potential for converting personal cars to electric, but few multicar households in India limit its profitability. Low powertrain versions can meet most daily travel needs on a single charge, according to an analysis. Increasing large-vehicle ownership and travel distances increase electricity demand. Adopt a suite of policies to limit car ownership, maintain travel intensity, and regulate energy demand.
