Factors influencing the intention to use electric cars in Brazil—De Oliveira, 2020

Electric automobiles are gaining popularity worldwide. In Brazil, this new technology is still immature, and few consumer-focused studies exist. This research attempted to uncover the determinants of Intention to Use Electric Cars in Brazil using the Decomposed Theory of Planned Behavior and consumer emotions. Online survey data from 488 Brazilians was examined using SEM. Perceived relative advantage and compatibility with the electric car have a positive effect on respondents' attitudes, and positive attitudes towards the electric car have a positive effect on Intention to Use. Attitudes and emotions were the main determinants of ITU. Despite respondents' good attitudes toward using and buying an electric car, they are concerned about the charging infrastructure, charging time, vehicle autonomy, and purchase price. These findings are consistent with similar investigations in other nations. The results of the study may shed light on the problem in Brazil and provide information that improves the formulation of laws and guidelines for electric car adoption in Brazil.
